Welcome to the latest addition of Dattebayo’s ever-popular Feedback Forum. Today’s format is a bit different. Despite the fact that nearly everyone who writes to us seems convinced that they not only represent the majority of our fans, but are the only source of knowledge and righteousness in the entire universe, the fact is that we get lots of differing opinions about what we should or shouldn’t be doing. Here are some examples of the conflicting opinions we get. If you ever find yourself wondering why DB doesn’t listen to its fans, it’s frankly because you guys don’t make any sense.
Please note that the messages below have not been altered in any way, with the exception of the removal of people’s email addresses to protect the ignorant. If you are offended by strong language, poor attempts at insults, and bad grammar, you shouldn’t be using the internet. For clarity, my comments are in italics.
Our statement that Naruto, etc, are not aired in HD generated a lot of controversy. One example:
Subject: [OTHER] HD realease
While I usually agree with most of you guy's do and post and all that crap, whatever you want to say about how "naruto isn't released in hd because it's not broadcast in hd"... all I can say is that the groups who do release in "hd" release a sub that is a hell of a lot clearer than what you release. If you don't want to release a higher visual quality sub... fine. Just say it like that though.
Yet just a few hours later, we received this message:
Subject: [OTHER] Regarding HD releases.
Regarding those retards who keep thinking anime is ever played in HD. It would be worthless. The quality loss when anime is upscaled to HD is none. It's like trying to prove a Black square has better quality in resolution 1920x1024 than in resolution 640x480.
Animations and generally drawn pictures have low quality as they are. Most elements in the picture have only few colors and shades. There is no real need to release them in HD because the quality difference is literally none. The artists making the anime would have to draw in the large format from the start and be lot more precise for it to take any effect. The only quality that can be gained through anime aired in HD is sound. But i highly doubt that any anime will soon have 5.1 or 7.1 quality sound.

I don't know if you get any letters thanking you for all that you do. If you do, throw this one in the pile. I appreciate all that you do. Even when you explain to the slow ass retards out there more than the required amount of times why things are the way they are (e.g.: why you don't sub Naruto anymore; why you don't encode in mkv format, etc.). I understand and i want to say thank you for the things that you do. Please keep up the great work for as long as possible. As long as you are around, you will have a fan in me. Once again, Thank You.
This charming gentleman finds our attitude towards our fans “rude and ignorant”. He really means it, he had to say it twice!

You people are rude and ignorant....you fools have to understand that not everyone knows 500 other people are sending you idiots email about the HD episodes of Naruto and Bleach. I can't stand the way you treat your LOYAL fans. Oh, and one more thing: knowing how petty you people are, I have no problem with you "banning" me (gasp). I groups that sub way better than you people.

This message suggests we upgrade our video format (credit where credit is due to the writer, who was unusually polite):
Subject: [ADVICE] Possibly using a different encoder
It's come to my attention that by using a file-format such as AVI that was developed in 1992 is not doing justice the the quality video/audio that you might be receiving in RAW form for Bleach. I merely suggest that you try some other format such as .mkv or XVD. I say this because other subbing groups are using these file-formats and up-scaling the video as to provide better quality to their fans. I enjoy the subs you do provide as they aren't a word-for-word translation and that you don't translate every goddam word to english.
This fan, on the other hand, prefers it the way it is:

Thank you for NOT using MKV or using HD for your releases. I have to go through conversions to get Bleach to the point where it works on my television, due to the way our computers and such are set up. If you changed anything like what you were mentioning above I wouldn't be able to watch it till friday at least, due to the conversions and such. Thank you for not going too far and making your videos unable to be played through those that don't have specific programs installed on our computers.

I really enjoyed your recent troll of subbing the opening to hello kitty stump village and telling us it was high definition Naruto. But there were a few problems with your execution that made it completely obvious that it was a troll. 1: You listed it in HD 1080p soon after you gave a full speech about how it isn't aired that way. 2: When the file size is looked at on the download page, maybe an idiot would fall for 170mb since that is the usual download size for an episode, but anybody with intelligence would realize "wait, 1080p is huge, there is no way that a half hour of huge is equal to a half hour of not huge." (Yes that is how they would phrase it) Still, kudos. I got really excited when I realized it was a troll after seeing the 1080p label. So here is to you Dattebayo for making me feel good about myself for finding a troll before watching it, and not getting disappointed in myself for watching it. Cheers!

(Side note: Yes, we do think it’s funny! Glad we could clear that up.)
As for the ubiquitous complaints about the nonexistent errors in our files, this is one of my favorites. This fellow had difficulty playing our file, stating that there was no video, just sound.

I have just completed downloading the 3rd Bleach movie. I would like to know if you have had the same feedback coming back from other fans that there's no sound coming out when it's being played.

Some people felt the announcement regarding our changes to the way we sub Bleach was unnecessary, as the changes were relatively inconsequential.

As long as you guys keep putting out Bleach on-time and at such a high quality, you could decide to translate all the names of techniques to things like "Steve cuts the cheese" and I would be happy.
Anyone who bitches about your decision should be punched in the head. Just my opinion.

However another user (who I hope enjoys his 15 min of fame courtesy of us), felt that translating the technique names “ruins everything”. That’s right, everything is now ruined. He was so upset that he had to blog about it. Read his whole post here.
For fun, I sent the "Shylocke" a link to the blog post. Here is an excerpt from his reply to me:
Good God. That is possibly the most pathetic thing I've ever read. I mean really. I could understand being slightly annoyed if you changed Ichigo's name to "Scowling Orange haired dude with a sword made to compensate for other inadequacies" but changing the sword technique to English is his beef with you? *Facepalm* If he's so damned concerned with keeping the "purity", why doesn't he learn Japanese and watch the damn RAW episodes. His very existence diminishes the total sum of the global I.Q. He is making us all dumber just by being alive.
That's right folks. DB fans: making the rest of the world dumber, just by being alive. Thanks to everyone who makes our lives more entertaining by sending us completely nonsensical messages. Until next time, keep watching.
Update: Many of our fans have noticed that the latest 07-Ghost troll was not covered in this feedback volume, and we're sorry for that! The likely reason nothing was mentioned is everyone absolutely loved episode 26 and even asked for more. If there was any negative ghost 26 feedback, it was lost in literally thousands of requests to re-sub the entire series in this "new way". By the way, 07-Ghost is complete at 25 episodes, thus there are no more to release, so stop asking or be BANNED.
