Regarding release of "HD" episodes of Bleach/Naruto/Anime XYZ [UPDATED x3]
2009/08/26
Hello pals, I'm your friendly video production manager at Dattebayo Fansubs.
Recently, we've been "flooded" (to put it lightly) with various childish requests to "start releasing HD Bleach/Naruto/Whatever" because "other, shittier quality groups are doing HD, so you must do it too!".
I'm here to inform all of you about the broadcast source used for BLEACH (the currently most requested in HD show), and to explain the reasons why it will not be released in HD.
According to a reputable site which keeps track of the format/quality animu is aired in, BLEACH does NOT air in what would be considered "High Definition" in most parts of the world, except maybe in Kenya.
Quote:
For those unable to read the above table, it says BLEACH airs on TVTokyo, in 16:9 format, using "component" (as opposed to composite) digital transfer, and, broadcast as "SD field up" which basically fucking means its an upscale with at most 480 horizontal lines worth of quality.
Any future requests to sub a show in HD which does not acutally air in HD will result in an immediate, likely automatic ban. Same goes for requests for us to start encoding using "H.264", in "mkv" container, or any other ridiculous requests which would require us to upgrade from currently-used Windows Movie Maker 2.0beta which is used for all encoding. Thank you.
P.S. For those who STILL don't get it, Naruto broadcast is also an upscale, same as BLEACH. Some foreign fuck from "another fansub group" had to inform us that "Naruto is actually broadcasted in real HD". Of course, he was banned, and I added the Naruto table above to prove it.
More fucktards keep emailing us saying, OMG, Group XYZ releases it in 720p, so it MUST BE TRUE. Well, guess what. First of all, nothing in Japan is "aired" in 720p. In ISDB-T (Japan digital terrestrial TV standard), HD resolution is 1440x1080i and SD resolution is 720x480i. Do you see a 720p in there? No. How does 720p appear? Either software de-interlacing + resize (most everyone does that now) or analog capture over Component (D4) from a quality upscaling set-top-box. (Nobody does this now, hopefully).
Choice quote from the spew of bullshit we received on this topic:
indeed, Group XYZ DO release in 720p no mater how you look at it, which means that Anime XYZ IS in fact aired in 720p/HD
For your enjoyment, here's samples of the actual broadcast (1440x1080i, as PNG). The only thing that's actually anywhere near "HD" quality in these caps is the station logo.
- bleach sample 1
- bleach sample 2
- bleach sample 3
- bleach sample 4
- bleach sample 5
- naruto sample 1
- naruto sample 2
- actual "HD" material (taken from CM in the middle of narutoe ep).
Following the awesome logic of narutard above, if we start releasing Bleach in 2160p, that surely means it airs in Super-HD!!!!1111oneoneoneeleven.
Best comment so far received on the update:
p.s using lame sample shots from some shitty broadcast and then comparing to real life hd shot(even that looks like a crappy shit pic) man i cant stop laughing lol lolWe can't stop laughing at your stupidity, either.
Shit below was just too funny to not post here:
Since you know that video quality from that station is bad, why do you still stick to that station? Why don't you get the raw from somewhere else? I understand the concept of up-scaled video perfectly, the video quality can only be as good as the source used by the station. It is obvious here that this station is using an extremely low quality video source. You know not all SD source are of the same quality. Some are derived from videos source higher than 480p, some lower. Video resolution is not what you get on your TV, it what being capture by the video camera. Your cables and TV are just equipments for watching videos captured by other people. My point is, you should just admit to using an inferior RAW. End of discussion. There is really nothing controversy or disputable about it. Remember, you guys are providing a free service. Nobody can tell you what to do. Hence, there is also no need for spread propaganda (false information) about video quality. Common guys, the only people you all are fooling are yourself and my grandmother who BTW don't watch anime (I'm trying to be funny).
tl;dr version: You get exactly what you pay for, faggots.
